Pre-K

Here is my new dilemma. Asher obviously is going to Pre-K this year and as always it is new and exciting for him. Well, I don't know about other states, but Pre-K can range anywhere from $150-$500 a month. Yeah, I know it's crazy. The $150 a month ones are a co-op and I am so not doing that with Graham. I did my homework the best I could and found a Pre-K program at the community center here in Simi and it was only $170/month. I was pretty happy about that until now.

We had our parent orientation the other day and this is what I got out of it. Asher will be there for 2 1/2 hours 3Xs a week. That is great for me. But here is where I was concerned. The teacher has a whole program that she follows. First when the kids come they are left on a rug and on the rug they do months, days etc. etc. Then she sits them in desks for 1/2 hour to do work book stuff. Then they do other science bla bla stuff. All of you who know Asher , can you imagine him just sitting for a half hour working in a work book? Well, I can't. The teacher said that she treats this class like a kindergarten class. I can understand this. The curriculum in CA is a lot harder than other states so here the kids have to be reading small words in pre-k. Then the teacher said that she gives the kids two weeks to figure out the class rules then after that she has a board hanging in the front of the class. If the kids don't obey the class rules she will put the kids names on a huge frownie face and hang it on the board all week. And the day they get the frownie face, they have to stand under the board when I come to get him and tell me why he got it. I am an advocate of helping Asher learn to be responsible for there actions so by telling me what he did is ok. But putting his name on the bad boy board for a whole week and then making him stand under it when I come just brands him in my mind. But then again, maybe he will surprise us all and not ever be on the bad board.

Would you send your kid there? I talked to the teacher and told her I was concerned. If he was publicly humiliated it would end his desire to go to school. She said that he wouldn't have to stand under the board. That is better but he will still see his name on the bad board all week. Can you imagine what that would do to a child like Asher who feels sooooooo deeply and takes in everything.

I don't know how I feel right now. I can always take him out if there is a problem but then where would he go? I called a lady that I was referred to and she told me about another program that is free(can you believe) and Asher would go to this elementary school and he would be teamed up with a boy older than him that had some sort of physical disorder and they would learn together. I went and applied for that school but the lady said that it could take weeks to hear from them before they made a decision if Asher could go there.

So I am back at square one. Do I take him out of the first school and get my deposit back while I can or do I wait and send him to the first school and see how he does and then see if the other school calls? I know this needs to be a matter of prayer and discussion with Scotty but I just had to get everything out of my head so thanks for listening, or reading:) stay tuned for what happens!

"You want to play hard ball? I'm game"

I swear that my house is built on a huge ant society. Not just an ant hill, but like 10 ant hills have to be under my house. It all started when we played in the pool in the backyard. The water would go under our patio and the ants would come up. After a while I noticed that there were lines of ants forming all over my patio. Then, they did the unforgivable and entered my house. I feel ashamed to say but we have ants. I have caulked every crevice and cranny and sprayed every inch of our house inside and out. At night before I go to bed I make sure that there are no crumbs on my floor or on my counter tops hoping that the scouting ants don't find anything and leave my house. But it doesn't matter. They still come in and I find them everywhere. Maybe I am taking my anger out on the ants from what is going on with Prop 8 but I am so ready to blow torch them all and I don't care if the house goes with them. On second thought I don't want to burn my new house:). Anyways, this has to be a California thing because I have never had problems with ants before and honestly everyone I know here has problems. Any suggestions on how to kill a whole colony of ants?

OK I lied

I can't stop blogging even though I don't have a camera. It is an addiction. Tonight we went to a baptism and it was . . . well. . . action packed. To start off, we arrived and we were late but they started late so that wasn't bad. Then we found ourselves seats in the back because every mother of boys knows that boys never sit still. We sat down and the first thing Grahammy starts doing was talking to the elders sitting behind us. Mind you it was very quiet in the room. I looked around and realised that we were the only knuckle heads who brought our kids. The room was packed with adults and was very quiet. So what is the first thing that Grahammy says???? POOP. Yup, he starts yelling poop over and over again. The elders behind us were laughing and then one of them looked at Graham and said, "Jesus" so he got Graham to say Jesus every 3rd poop.

Then Graham walked over to Asher and started messing around with his shirt or something and they both started laughing and saying poop at the same time. I was not so much embarrassed just sorry for ruining the spirit so I took the kids out for a drink. Then after the baptism Graham decided to play with my lotion. He opened it and squeezed it so hard that the lotion rocket launched over me, under Scotty's chair and all over the floor, hymn book and the Elders shoe who was saying Jesus. I had had it at that point. Everyone was looking at us and I decided to leave. So I took the boys and left Scotty to fend for himself and find a ride home. Believe it or not, Asher was the one who was behaving most of the time. He is a big boy now! So that was my night in a nut shell.

People have asked me when I am going to have my next baby. Well, to tell you the truth I have always planned my pregnancies around my marathons and I have two planned. One next year and Boston in 2010. I think after that I will be ready for a couple more.

Does anybody still read my blog even though I have no pictures and interesting stuff about my house posted????

For all of you in or out of CA you might want to know what is going on. If California doesn't vote for Prop 8 the other states will follow and then the Supreme Court will have to ok it nation wide. If you have a minute watch this video HERE and educate yourselves on what we are facing as Christians. This is a real attack on the family and will only result in the disintegration of the nation. Let me know what you think.

In my absence. . .

I am so missing my camera. I can't blog without it. I feel like the tin man who just can't function right without his brain. So I regret to say that I am going to skip the blogging until I find my camera or break down and get a new one. I have so many new house things to show you but alas. . I cannot. So you and I will have to wait until I find my brain. Farewell my dear friends. Till we meat again.

We are rallying the troops

I just spent the last 2 hours calling people in my ward to rally this for this Saturday. We are going door knocking for the Prop 8. We are supposed to see who is voting for or against it. I made a blog for my ward. Click here to see it. We are going to be working hard until the vote this November. I actually had one lady tell me that she wasn't for prop 8. I thought that was weird because I was calling all members. What ever :) So here we go. We are fighting Satan and we know who will win in the end now don't we.

This blows my mind. . .

In 2000 California voted against amending the state constitution to allow gays to be married. Well, this year the state legislative is trying to change the wording again so that gays can be married. Proposition 8 has come out and it would make it so that gays can't be married and it puts an amendment on the state stuff so that it can't be brought up again. I don't know if you all out of CA know this is going on. If gays are allowed to get married here permanently, then other states will do the same thing. Then, we are all in big trouble. Same sex couples can go to our bishops and ask him to marry them and if he says no they can sue him. The Church never really takes a stand on political things but they are taking a huge stand on this one. They have asked us (CA residents) to go out knocking doors to persuade people to vote for Prop 8. They are asking for our money and time and President Monson said that we can't loose this one. WOW. Is this a sign of the times or what? I am part of the group in my ward that is heading all the activities in my ward and we are doing a ton of stuff to promote Prop 8. There is a website that you can go to and it explains it all. It is www.protectmarriage.com It is time to be as righteous of a people as we can be
I feel so strongly that it really is time for us members of the church to stand up and be the righeoutous people that we are supposed to be. We need to work harder to bring in those who have gone astray and to help the missionaries find those ready to hear the gospel. Scotty and I say that this is a "ripening" time. We are either being "ripened" to righteousness or wickedness. What do you think?

Lesson learned

The other day I was cooking dinner. I never like to cook with raw chicken. Usually I cook it first then do all the recipe stuff. I had to use raw chicken because of what I was making. Asher was pretty interested in the chicken. He asked me what it was and I said it was chicken but that it would make us sick if we ate it uncooked. I turned my back to him and when I turned around his little finger was in his mouth. I asked him if he touched the chicken and then put it in his mouth. He was said yes and I asked him why he did it. He said that he was curious. So because I couldn't do anything about it I just went on with my day. The next morning he woke up pale as could be. I didn't catch on that he was sick so I started getting him ready for his summer camp and then he goes, "Mom, I feel sick. My stomach hurts" and that is when I caught on and remembered the chicken. Needless to say he didn't go to summer camp that day and he spent the whole day throwing up in the "pop corn" bowl. Poor little guy. So now if you ever ask him why we shouldn't eat raw chicken he will tell you from experience and I can guarantee that he won't ever touch raw chicken and again and put his finger in his mouth.
